2006 Detroit Music Award for Outstanding Jazz Recording!
Jeremy's newest release, "Jazz Violin," offers an hour of original and standard contemporary jazz tunes with John Nam, Piano; Dann Friedman, Tenor Sax; Andrew Kratzat, Bass; & Chad Hochberg, Drums.
"The disc features six tracks by Kittel and other band members as well as standards by Wayne Shorter, John Coltrane, Bud Powell, and Emily Remler. Ear-catchers include Kittel’s own “Jujette” and “Night Muse,” as well as Shorter’s “Yes or No.” On the whole, “Jazz Violin” goes from swinging to sentimental, all of it orchestrated expertly by a young man who’s clearly double trouble in the violin world."
- Roger LeLievre, Ann Arbor News
"His excellence at interpreting and extending the Celtic fiddle tradition are exceeded only by his startling inventiveness and poise on jazz violin. Listen for him."
- Darol Anger
"Kittel seems destined to be a world-class talent, and "Jazz Violin" - which he characterizes as "my first steps on a new path" - is the ear-catching debut of a formidable jazzer. Unlike the shiny, violinistic Euro- sound of Stephane Grappelly or Mark O'Connor, and equally unlike the rough-at-the-edges stridency of Stuff Smith or Regina Carter, Kittel has almost miraculously found an original, signature sound: dark, preternaturally lean and hornlike, a perfect instrumental voice for jazz and not really like anyone else's." - Lansing State Journal "There is remarkable maturity here, both in the playing and the writing." - Current Magazine

In "Roaming" Kittel energetically explores his many musical influences, from traditional Scottish and Irish styles to jazz and classical music. He moves from original Celtic compositions to Irish-tinged jazz, newgrass and triple-fiddle harmonies, with startling improvisations and plenty of traditional Scottish and Irish tunes. With John Behling on guitar, Glenn Brady on acoustic bass, Tyler Duncan on bodhran and Irena Portenko on piano. Eleven tracks, 57 minutes.
"Roaming" was named 4th best Celtic Album of the Year by Kansas Public Radio and awarded second place from over 10,000 entries for "Best Celtic Instrumental Album" in the international Just Plain Folks Competition. "Stairwell Time" from the album also won second place for "Best Celtic Instrumental Song."
"It's a much over-used cliche, but I really believe this is what genius sounds like. Highly recommended!"
- Mark Clark, Jam Rag, 3/2003
"There's enough of the traditional music to keep purists happy... But that's only the starting point for Kittel."
- David Lyman, Detroit Free Press, 3/16/03
"Jeremy uses traditional music as a base on which to fuse styles and sounds. He stretches beyond musical boundaries with a delightful mix of innovative original tunes, traditional Celtic melodies, and soundscapes adapted from the likes of jazz greats Louis Prima and Chick Corea... Roaming is a totally pleasurable listening experience."
- Matt Watroba, Sing Out Magazine, Fall 2003
"I am generally very traditional in my tastes, but I enjoy this disc a lot. The playing is fresh, exciting, and sweet. Very able accompaniment on guitar by John Behling, with some particularly hot jazz licks, and a nice use of bass, bodhran, and piano as well. Oh yeah, Jeremy is just too damn young to play as well as he does, and "more mature" musicians should ignore the pictures on the album, or tape them over, or something of the sort."
- Brendan Taaffe, Fiddler Magazine, Summer 2003
Celtic Fiddle contains driving renditions of traditional and original Scottish, Irish, and Cape Breton Fiddle Tunes. On each track Kittel is accompanied by Charlie Wilkie, Guitar; Patrick Flannagan, Bouzouki & Guitar; Tim Sparling, Piano; or Jesse Mason, Guitar. Twelve tracks, 54 Minutes.
"Celtic Fiddle - one of the top Celtic albums of 2000 and certainly the best by a new young artist"
-- Bryan Kelso Crow of Celtic
Connections, Heard on 95 Radio Stations in the US
"[Jeremy has] established impeccable credentials for Scottish fiddling with his first album..."
-- Fiddler Magazine, Summer 2003
"Still in his teens, Jeremy Kittel has already established himself as a world-class fiddler."
--Sing Out, Fall 2003
"His album showcases his talent in a well-chosen series of tunes, including the wonderful "Tamlin" and the haunting "Well May Charlie Wear the Crown."
--Current Magazine, 9/200
"You'd think he had been playing for decades in Irish Music Halls. Kittel's fiddle style is utterly convincing; he has the characteristic driven-bow style of Irish and Scottish fiddling, the percussive cuts and rolls, down pat."
--Valley News, New Hampshire, 12/12/02
